It is important that your child eats correctly in order to maintain healthy teeth and body. Eating regular nutritious meals, with the occasional snacks, helps prevent decay and forms lifelong habits for good health.

The American Academy of Dentistry recommends the following:

Ask your pediatric dentist to help you in assessing your child's diet.
Shop smart. Do not routinely stock your pantry with sugary and starchy snacks. Buy "fun foods" just for special times.
Limit the number of snacks times; choose nutritious snacks.
Provide a balanced diet, and save the foods with sugar of starch for mealtimes.
Do not put your child to bed with a bottle of milk, formula or juice.
If your child chews gum or sips soda, choose those without sugar.
Soda should be saved for mealtime and infrequently.
Juices are often filled with sugars, so frequency makes a difference.
